It’s that time of year once again! It’s time to break out the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving. One of the United States’ most celebrated holidays, Thanksgiving brings family together to fill up on our favorite comfort foods, but just because you are celebrating doesn’t mean you can neglect your teeth!
If you are traveling out of state remember to pack a toothbrush and floss. If you require a specialty toothbrush like the Rotadent or Sonicare be sure you bring your charger so your brushing habits don’t change when you are out of town.
Now, we know that celebrating can be fun but it’s easy to go overboard with the sweets on Thanksgiving Day. Pilgrims didn’t drink soda and neither should you! There is more than enough sugar being passed around the table with a plethora of pies and cranberry sauce! Try sticking to milk or water when washing down your second helping of stuffing!
Thanksgiving and Christmas are two holidays that involve a lot of nuts! However, don’t try to open nuts with your teeth! Too many people will try this and end up with a cracked tooth instead. I’m sure an emergency visit to the dentist is not a part of your holiday plans, so make sure to use an actual nutcracker and keep your teeth intact.
Families love to have the bottles of wine flowing and the tryptophan in turkey can make you sleepy. This isn’t an excuse to pass out without brushing your teeth. Junk food can wear away your teeth while you are asleep. Be sure to risne, brush and floss your teeth before you doze off to a Turkey Day football game.
Here at DC Dental we hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your friends and family. We sure have a lot to be thankful for in 2013.
