Natural Teeth Whitening Methods

There are several ways to whiten your teeth. You can visit your dentist for a teeth bleaching procedure or use whitening strips from the comfort of your own home. There are also natural ways to go about achieving those coveted pearly whites. Here are some natural teeth whitening methods.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fresh market fruits and vegetables

Eat your veggies! That’s something that your mother always told you when you were younger, but did you know that fruits and vegetables can also make your teeth nice and white.

Crunchy vegetables such as celery and crispy fruits like apples and pears are naturally abrasive, which means they will polish your teeth and remove stains from your tooth enamel.

These types of fruits and vegetables also promote the production of saliva which helps protect teeth from cavity-causing bacteria.

Baking Soda

Baking soda isn’t just for keeping the fridge fresh and for making paper mache volcanoes. It can also be used as an easy at-home stain remover. Mix baking soda and lemon juice into a paste. Using your toothbrush apply the paste directly to your teeth.

The sodium bicarbonate mixture will help remove surface stains from your tooth enamel while the citric acid in the lemon juice has a bleaching effect similar to that of whitening strips.

Cheese!

Who would have thought that eating one of America’s favorite foods could help prevent cavities and promote enamel remineralization. The casein, a milk protein, which can be found in cheese, milk, and yogurt works to make enamel stronger.

Strong enamel is important to a radiant smile due to dentin. While enamel can be stained, it’s the dentin that determines the color of your teeth.

Brush with Berries

If you really want to go on the holistic route you can use strawberries to give yourself a glistening smile. The vitamin C in strawberries will help remove plaque build-up, while the malic acid, a natural astringent in the berries helps remove surface stains on teeth.

Crush the strawberries into a pulp and use your toothbrush to apply directly to your teeth. Let it sit for five minutes then rinse with water.
