Top Dental Movies

Movies about dentists might not seem like the most interesting opportunity for plot lines and character development, but some real gems exist when it comes to movies with dentists in them. DC Dental family has put together a list of our top 3 movies starring our favorite professionals: dentists.

Little Shop of Horrors
Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Rick Moranis, and others are on this all-star dentist movie cast. This film was released in 1986, and is about an orphan who works in a flower shop who befriends a blood-thirsty plant. The orphan, Seymour, feeds this plant the boyfriend of Audrey, which he has a crush on. Audrey’s boyfriend just so happens to be a dentist, and by feeding him to the plant, who he calls Audrey II, he has sparked a deeper hunger in Audrey II. They must find a way to stop the plant, or allow the world to be doomed by their actions.

Finding Nemo
This animated feature from Disney was released in 2003, and has since become a must-watch for all Disney fans. The story is about a clown fish, Nemo, who is taken from his home in the ocean to live in a dentist’s office in Sydney, Australia. His father then takes on a quest across the ocean to find his son. The dentist becomes a major character in the film because that is the setting in which Nemo lives. Throughout the movie, viewers get to see many dental patients undergo various procedures, but the overall family message is what makes this movie really worth watching.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
This 2005 film is a remake of the classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and stars Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore. It’s a well-known story: unwealthy Charlie wins the golden ticket to tour Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and ends up gaining control of the chocolate factory after Willy Wonka sees he is the best candidate over the other rotten winners. Throughout the movie, we see the journey Willy Wonka has had in his lifetime living in a constant struggle with his love for candy but his father’s extreme disapproval. His father is a dentist and takes a very horror-movie-like role in bashing candy and steering Willy away from it. Although the portrayal of Willy’s father’s dentistry is a bit harsh, it allows the viewer to get a tiny glimpse as to what it could be like being raised to pay close attention to oral health.

These are just a few of our favorite movies with dentist characters. There are many more out there that show how great dentists are!
